Two new families in homes through Rentwell
Our Rentwell affordable housing program is off to a great start in 2020 with two new properties getting tenants. Both properties were signed up with Rentwell just days before the holiday break and have already had viewings.
Around 50 people attended one open home and, from that, we received 12 applications. Eight people of the 28 people who viewed the second home applied for the property.
Two days later, we offered tenancy on both properties. A migrant family will live in one after finding out just before the holiday break that the home they were renting was being sold and they had to leave. The other property will house a single mum with two kids, and enable her to be closer to the support of her family.
This makes 17 properties already tenanted through our Rentwell program since it launched in May 2019, with more in the pipeline. And with Canberra rental prices for houses remaining the highest of all capital cities, we are continuing to seek more properties to help people on moderate incomes who are priced out of the mainstream rental market.
